DMV / Motor Vehicle Filing

There is no form to fill out in advance to change the applicant’s name on their Wyoming Driver’s license. However, this is a critical step that needs to be completed for most adult name changes.

If you are also changing the gender maker on your license there is a form you need to fill out and bring in. It is the Wyoming Driver’s License Gender Update form. If you filled out this form you will need to take it with you to the driver’s license office.

Process Steps

Where to go
You can find a list of Wyoming Driver’s License Office locations here. Choose the one closest to you and visit them to update the name or the applicant’s license.

If you are changing your gender marker please take your Wyoming Driver’s License Gender Update form with you.

Please note that driver’s license names cannot be updated until the social security changes have been completed from the previous step. We recommend waiting a few business days between completing these two steps to make sure they have processed.

When you go to the driver’s license office please make sure you bring a certified copy of your final name change court order. You will then be asked to turn in your current Wyoming license or ID card. You will then be re-photographed and asked to sign again. The new license will be valid for four years.  Your new license will be mailed to you in approximately four weeks.
